A foundation allows you to build something important. For example, here in the South Carolina LowCountry - we are blessed with many very old buildings whose strong foundations have allowed them to stand for hundreds of years. One good example is Drayton Hall - which was built in the mid 1700s and still stands along the Ashley River in Charleston.
Drayton Hall's foundation - like many historic buildings - is made of brick and mortar. Foundations for organizations, however, are made of ideas or principles. For Girl Scouts, that foundation is found in the Girl Scout Promise and Laws.

The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
respect myself and others,
use resources wisely.
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
